Feeding Strategy & Body Condition Monitoring
Yembroos® Ostrich Feeds are designed to support average ostrich physiology under standard environmental conditions. However, feed volume must be adjusted based on individual bird body condition.
- If the backbone protrudes, increase feed.
- If the backbone is sunken, reduce feed.
- The ideal condition is when backbone is level with the surrounding flesh.
For breeding flocks:
- Transition to Keeper Feed during summer (March-May).
- Introduce Breeder Feed with 40% Lucerne three weeks prior to mating.
- Total intake for breeder birds should be around 2.2 kg/day.
Hatchery & Incubation Notes (For Reference)
- Collect, disinfect, and store eggs in temp-controlled environments (13–18°C, 70–75% RH)
- Incubate at 36–36.5°C and 22–28% humidity for 40 days
- Rotate eggs 45° four times a day
- Hatchery humidity: 30–40%; temperature: 35–35.5°C
